In the post “Where we began”, we shared that our main goal is to create a legacy home, a place we can retire but also a gathering place for our families for years to come. While the “home” part is further away, the gathering place doesn’t have to be.
On a couple of occasions, myself and some of our family (note that my wife does not “do camping” on any level) have enjoyed overnight camping. It’s true ‘roughing it’, there is no access to running water or even an outhouse. It’s a hard reminder of how comfy a mattress is, but well worth getting back into nature and enjoying the benefits of our very own campground.
My dad turned 75 last year and having the opportunity to spend quality time camping with his grand-daughter has been truly priceless. On the first camping occasion, we spent time clearing the original logging road ‘up’ to what we have referred to as Base Camp 1; then pitched our tents and enjoyed some grilling and marshmallows over the camp fire and let the quiet fall over us.
This trip was topped off with fly fishing together for the first time in 25 plus years and using my custom fly rod that was given to me on my 15th birthday. Having 3 generations enjoying the land and close proximity of one of the best trout fishing in Upstate NY was a great reminder of treasuring every minute you have.
We look forward to warm and cozy future gatherings by a fire inside TenirBon House. For now, the experience of being under the stars and watching the sun rise for the first time over the Green Mountains from our hillside was a great first start.
